To our Laneway family,
Thanks so much for being some of the first to adopt us & our brand. As a sign of our appreciation, we thought we’d treat you to some of our favourite cocktails for you to be able to make from the comfort of your own home. All these have been designed with the home bartender in mind so that everyone can make them.
We hope you enjoy!
Southside
The Southside is one of our favourite gin based cocktails; pretty much the same as a gimlet but with addition of mint for added freshness.
We’ve given ours a slight twist for some added fun. You’ll need-
45ml Laneway All Day Dry Gin
15ml Elderflower Liquer (ideally St. Germain)
30ml of Fresh Lime juice
10ml of Sugar
4 Mint Leaves
Couple of Cucumber wheels
Method: Muddle your cucumber and mint in your preferred shaking vessel with the sugar, then you can go & add all the other ingredients together. Add you ice, shake hard and fine strain into a nice stemmed glass like a coupe and garnish with one mint leaf.
Classic Martini
The Martini; a classic, spirit forward drink loved by many worldwide. Many variations exist but here is a relatively classic expression where less is more, letting the gin and vermouth shine. Grab yourself the following-
60ml of Laneway All Day Dry
15ml of Dolin Dry Vermouth
Nothing more to it, add these two ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and give it a stir for 15-20 seconds do help give it some dilution and release more aromatics. Single strain into a nice coupe glass. Peel off some orange rind, squeeze the oils over the top of the drink and twist the peel in the drink to enhance the native orange citrus in gin.
Cacao Negroni
If you don’t have Campari or Sweet Vermouth in your arsenal at home, it’s time to grab some. This is a simple twist on the classic negroni to give it a slightly more warming and wintery edge.
30ml Laneway All Day Dry Gin
30ml Sweet Vermouth
30ml Cacao Infused Campari*
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass, stir down for about 15 seconds to add some dilution, (but not too much as it will be sitting on ice in the glass and slowly dilute some more) and strain out into a tumbler. Fill with fresh ice. Garnish with a little of orange peel or for something a bit more adventurous, some banana chip for a real choc banana vibe.
Pink Lane
Alright, so save this for your next dinner party to show your friends and family as it’ll require a bit more time and a few extra goodies but is well worth the trouble.
45ml Laneway All Day Dry Gin
20ml of Lychee Cordial*
15ml of Lychee Washed Giffards Lychee Liqueur*
30ml of Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice
20ml of Lime Juice
2 Dashes of Grapefruit Bitters (if you’ve got it)
Pinch of Salt
Add all ingredients into a shaker, shake and double strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a little grapefruit peel on the side
Home Cocktail Hacks and Tricks:
Simple Syrup (aka Sugar Syrup)
The simplest thing to make and have on hand. You can make as much or as little as you like, just keep to a 1:1 recipe; eg for every 500ml of water you use, use 500ml (2cups) of sugar.
To make it, bring the water to heat in a saucepan (not quite to boiling) and add your sugar, stir to help dissolve, take off the heat and continue to stir until all dissolved for silky, sweet sweet sugar.
Cocktail Shaker
If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use a smoothie shaker or at worst case scenario a water bottle to add your ingredients to shake.
Cacao Campari
Infuse one bottle of Campari with 4 tablespoons of cacao nibs or simply half the recipe if you want to just do half the bottle of Campari. Let it infuse for 90 minutes (or until you preferred taste, longer will bring for cacao through) and strain off.
Lychee Cordial
Blitz a whole tin of lychees (fruit and juice) and measure out liquid. Add equal parts of sugar (350ml of lychee juice, add 350ml of sugar), stir and combine.
Grapefruit Washed Lychee Liqueur
Skin 3 ruby red grapefruits of their peels and remove all pith. Rest them in a container of lychee liqueur for 24 hours, strain and bottle remaining liquid. Use a cheesecloth if necessary to strain out any solids that may form.
As always, with love,
Matt, Matt, Scott, Scott & Lachy
